How Many Times?
... looking for vocalists
Written, performed, arranged and produced by Nick Rumbelow
(c) Nick Rumbelow
Publishing available

I wrote “How Many Times?” with a style influenced by Basement Jaxx's “Oh My Gosh!”. It was originally about someone close who just goes round and round in the same relationship, but it soon became about me! So I lived by what I wrote and changed my life.

If I hadn’t acted on the message in this song, I would have not made important changes in my life, would have never met Lonnie Gordon, and would not be writing this now, so this one is quite personal.

It needs a disco diva to tell it like it needs to be heard! It requires a little imagination to hear around my demo vocals, but someone had to sing it first, and hopefully the energy is in there somewhere!

I tried to let go and freestyle musically on this, purposfully avoiding format with the backing instruments and indulgded with a jazzy vibraphone and piano, just feeling the flow and letting it go where it wanted to. Quite a release and turning point for me, I hope it shows how much I enjoyed making this one, even though I knew it really needs a female voice.

Lyrics

Three years and fourteen days,
And you’re still telling me
That you’re leaving him.
Does he build you up?
Does he break you back down?
Have you had enough
Of all this round and round?

How many times
Does it take to make you see
What he feels about you?
Got to get yourself together
Live life for today!
There’s no time like
Right now
Make the most of it somehow

You should be having fun
Out with your girls in the world
Life had just begun.
Time to live it up
Don’t let your man bring you back down
Time to give it up
Come on out and look around now
