“At Last!” is being sung by a friend to whom the words meant a lot, and he done a great job. It’s very moody and distinctive, driven by the power of the singer's emerging new identity, no longer needing anyone else or paying attention to what others tell him or her about themselves.
Another strong positive message, with a musical attitude which leaves the listener in no doubt about the singer’s resolution, intention, his or her new beginning and self-confidence. It’s clear that enough is finally enough and now it’s the time!
This is quite a heavy, almost tribal dance anthem, with a sudden and unexpected classical twist with the string section half way through, adding to the drama and adding movement and form to the song.
The lyrics match the energy of the music and come from a very special place within which we should all try to cultivate for our fulfilment, having the confidence to see the desires through to the actual change, having faith that everything will be ok, unafraid of the unknown because we know ourdelves … at last!. No turning back for this point, once you find this place the world will open up for you and life is never quite the same again. I would love to hear Madona do this one!
Lyrics
I've been waiting
Waiting too long
So liberating
It's time to move on
When I look behind me
I don't like what I see
But a change of direction
And I'm suddenly free
Independent
It's time to be strong
At last, I know I can make it
At last, I know I can take it
I'm ready to start it all again
I'm ready to be my own best friend
Can't stop me
I know what it means to be free
At last!
I'm not dreaming
This time it's for real
A life to believe in
My turn of The Wheel
Now my fortune's unwritten
Got my fate in my hands
My soul is the Ocean
Ambition my land
Time to play now
My turn to deal
Don't try to hold me back now
‘Cos that just sets me free
Don't need to prove myself
‘Cos I know all I really need is me
